During the meeting, the President highlighted the crucial role of the media in contributing to the nation’s progress, emphasizing that the media should actively participate in building a better state and enhancing the quality of life for all citizens.
Acknowledging the public’s demand for a positive political culture, the President invited media organizations to collaborate in realizing the transformative political, social, and economic changes desired by the people.
The President assured the media of its freedom to question or critique the government on political and economic matters but requested that they avoid disseminating false information that could compromise national security. Reflecting on the nation’s history, the President reiterated a commitment to preventing the resurgence of ethnic divisions while ensuring no curtailment of media freedom.
Additionally, the President briefed the media heads on the government’s strategies to address poverty and the progress of the "Clean Sri Lanka" program.
The discussion was attended by members of the Sri Lanka Broadcasters' Guild and senior representatives, including group directors, chief executive officers, and general managers of electronic media institutions.
