Today (26), the railway line near the Haliela-Uduwara 07 post was completely blocked due to a landslide caused by heavy rains. The incident occurred near a house close to a rail gate, forcing the evacuation of two families from the area due to the dangerous conditions.
Traffic on the Maduruoya-Polonnaruwa main road has been completely disrupted after a bridge in the Aralagangwila Bogus Junction area broke under the strain of the adverse weather.
Meanwhile, on the previous day (25) at 5:55 a.m., a large stone fell onto the railway track between Haliela and Badulla stations, obstructing the Podi Menike train from Colombo. The train drivers and sub-controllers worked tirelessly to clear the obstruction, and the train was eventually able to resume its journey.
