Issuing of Rs 1000 coin


To mark the 60th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Government of Japan, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) issued a silver commemorative coin of a face value of Rs. 1,000. This is the 57th in the series of  commemorative coins issued by the CBSL and it is minted by the Japan Mint on the request  of the Government of Japan.













Specifications of the coin :




* The Upper Kotmale Hydropower  
Project in multi colour.
* The words “Sri Lanka  - Japan 60
years” in Sinhala, Tamil and
English appear  on the periphery
with the year 2012 at the bottom of
the coin.


* Official Logo for the event in the  
centre.
* The face value of the coin, 1000 at
the bottom center with the words
“Rupees” and “Sri Lanka” in
Sinhala, Tamil and English on the
periphery.



  • The diameter is 35.0 mm with a weight of 20.0 grams.   
  • The coin is placed in an attractive presentation case with a certificate of authenticity from   the Japan Mint. 
  •  A limited number of coins will be sold by the CBSL at a price of Rs. 12,500 a coin at the cash counters of the Head Office of the CBSL, 30, Janadhipathi Mawatha Colombo 1, Money Museums at No.58, Center for Banking Studies, Sri Jayewardenepura Mawatha, Rajagiriya and CBSL Provincial Offices at Anuradhapura, Matara, Matale, Jaffna and Trincomalee from 15.11.2012.
  • This commemorative coin individually or with 6 other Japanese coins in a presentation pack will also be sold by the Japan Mint (see web site www.mint.go.jp for details).
